A man was arrested Monday for allegedly dumping more than 500 tires in a vacant lot in a Bellmead neighborhood, an arrest affidavit states.

Daniel Alan Tummins, 34, of Bellmead, was arrested after a woman made a complaint in December about illegal dumping in the 1300 block of Cloverleaf Drive. A Bellmead code enforcement officer went to the address and found about 200 abandoned tires had been left on the vacant lot, the affidavit states.

The officer took photos of the pile and spoke with Tummins, who identified himself as living at the address, in early January. The affidavit states the officer returned in February and said the pile of tires appeared to be larger than the previous months.

"The defendant stated the tires were from a tire shop and they were supposed to be dumped on his property but were dumped on the neighboring property instead," the affidavit states.

The officer measured the pile of tires to be about 60 feet long, 50 feet wide and 3 feet tall, the affidavit states. The pile had more than 500 tires by the first week of February.

Police arrested Tummins on a state-jail felony charge of illegal dumping of more than 1,000 pounds. He was also booked in on three outstanding and unrelated Bellmead warrants.

Tummins remained in custody at McLennan County Jail on Tuesday with a bond listed at $3,000.
