A Waco man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he violently attacked a sleeping woman at a home in the 1000 block of Colcord Avenue.

Police were called to the area shortly after midnight when the woman ran to a neighbor's house for help, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said. The woman reported she was sleeping when Michael Rennie Taylor, 46, came into her house, Swanton said.

“Taylor came in and started hitting on her, then cutting her with an unknown object,” Swanton said. “She tried to get away from him, but he kept coming after her until she was finally able to get away from him and go to the neighbor's house where she called police.”

Officers found Taylor hiding behind a shed in the backyard after searching the house, Swanton said. The woman told police she knows Taylor and that he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack, he said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of cuts and other injuries, Swanton said. It was not immediately know what kind of weapon was used in the attack.

Taylor was arrested on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was taken to McLennan County Jail. He remained in custody Tuesday afternoon with bond listed at $75,000.
