A Gatesville man was arrested Wednesday afternoon during a traffic stop on Interstate 35 that led to the discovery of child pornography on the man's phone, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. D.L. Wilson said.

James Cody, 25, was arrested after troopers made a traffic stop on southbound I-35, near mile-maker 350 in West, shortly after 1:15 p.m., for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, a trooper made an inquiry about a phone Cody, a passenger, had with him, Wilson said.

Cody consented to a search of his phone, and the trooper found multiple nude images of an underage girl on the phone, Wilson said. He declined to give additional details on the investigation.

Troopers arrested Cody on a third-degree felony charge of possession of child pornography and took him to McLennan County Jail. He was also served with a felony sexual assault of a child warrant out of Coryell County.

Wilson said the investigation remains ongoing.
