One person was killed and another was injured in a head-on collision late Thursday night, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said in a press release Friday morning.

Officers responded to the crash shortly after 10 p.m. near Bosque Boulevard and Fish Pond Road. The driver of a white 2011 Toyota Tacoma was dead when officers arrived, Swanton said. The driver of a 2003 Chevy Tahoe was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Police believe the driver of the Tacoma was westbound in the 6600 block of Bosque Boulevard when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, striking the eastbound Tahoe, Swanton said.

“Witnesses told officers the Toyota Tacoma was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the accident,” Swanton said.

The name of the Tacoma driver is not being released, pending notification of family.

The investigation is ongoing.
