A 3-year-old boy was hit by a car as he ran across a parking lot to reach family members leaving a pizza restaurant on Valley Mills Drive on Thursday afternoon, Waco police Officer Austin Evans said.

Police were called to Papa John's, 408 N. Valley Mills Drive at about 6:30 p.m. The boy's mother and sister crossed the lot as he lingered behind. The boy was hit as he ran toward them, Evans said.

The driver stopped and remained on scene as first responders attended to the boy's injuries. The boy's injuries did not initially appear to be serious, but he was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, Evans said.

The driver was not ticketed for the incident, he said.
