A 52-year-old bicyclist was hurt after a car hit him as he crossed Waco Drive on Wednesday afternoon, Waco police Officer Marc Luna said.
Police were called to the intersection of West Waco Drive and 24th Street at about 12:30 p.m. where the bicyclist and car collided. Luna said the bicyclist was traveling through a parking lot of a business on the north side of Waco Drive when he decided to cross the road in an attempt to continue south.
"He comes across Waco Drive, jumps the median and he tries to head down 24th Street, except traffic is coming," Luna said. "He tried to get across the street, but the car hit him."
A female driver and a female passenger were in the car at the time of the collision. Luna said neither occupant reported injuries when they stopped and gave police statements.
Emergency responders administered first aid to the bicyclist and transported him to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center. Luna said the man suffered what appeared to be a broken leg and road rash, but injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The driver of the car was not immediately cited for any violations. The crash remains under investigation.
