Bellmead police and community supporters delivered holiday gifts to 203 families in need Thursday thanks to donations from community members.

Holiday gifts, including bicycles, clothes, water guns and other toys, were collected during the police department’s annual toy drive. School counselors suggested students who would appreciate the gifts, and officers delivered them to the families, with help from the the Bellmead Explorers Post 301.

Bellmead Police Chief Lydia Alvarado said school officials provided the department with 163 names. The department also received requests for assistance from 40 other families.

“There were so many generous donations this year from so many,” Alvarado said in a press release. “There were boxes and boxes of miscellaneous toys donated for when there are other children in the homes that were not on the request list.”

Alvarado credited community members for their outreach and spirit during the holiday season. She said officers are looking forward to a “bigger and brighter 2018.”
