Talk of the Neighborhood: Local achievements and honors for May 8, 2011
Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.
* Applause *
* Brett Esrock (right) has been named senior vice president/chief operating officer of the Providence Healthcare Network.
Esrock comes to Waco from Lubbock, where he served as president of Lubbock Hospitals and chief operating officer of Covenant Health System and most recently as vice president, strategic services, in the St. Joseph Health System corporate offices.
He and his wife, Lisa, have two children, Nick and Lauren.
* Brett Rhodes (left), owner of Home Instead Senior Care, was recently recognized as an outstanding business performance at the annual international meeting in Omaha, Neb.
Rhodes was awarded the Cornerstone III award given for superior sales and customer satisfaction.
* Class Acts *
* Anna Marie DeLaRosa (right), a University of Dallas junior chemistry major, and 2008 graduate of Reicher Catholic High School, was recently announced as a 2011 Goldwater Scholar.
She is one of 275 Goldwater Scholars nationally and one of 13 from Texas. Goldwater Scholars receive full tuition, as well as financial support for books, room and board.
Anna Marie, the daughter of Mitch and Liz DeLaRosa, has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA at the school. She also conducted two summers of research, and participated with a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Kansas last summer.
This year, Anna will travel to Graz University of Technology in Austria with an REU international program through Syracuse University to do chemical research.
* Madison Taylor, a Lorena High School graduate, was named to the chancellor’s list, as well as the dean’s list in the Honors College for the fall semester at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
She is the daughter of Bryan and Rene Taylor and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Lyde Jr.
* In the Military *
* Air Force Airman Albert G. Ruggles (right), a 2009 Waco High School graduate, completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Albert and Shea Ruggles, of Waco.
* Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob A. Eaves (left), a 2010 graduate of West High School, completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Sherrill Caddel, of West.
