Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

 

* Class Acts *

Dana Ausburn (right), a student at McLennan Community College, received the Kathy Mears Education Award from the American Society of Electroneurodi-agnostic Tech-nologists Foundation. Ausburn is a second-year student in the electroneurodiagnostics and polysomnography (END/PSG) technology program at MCC.

The award includes a $300 scholarship for Ausburn and $200 for MCC’s END/PSG program, which teaches students to perform tests that examine the brain’s electrical signals.

She received the ASET award based on a nomination essay written by her program director, Mary Feltman.

After she graduates in August, Ausburn plans to get her bachelor’s degree in health services technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville by attending classes through the University Center at MCC.

Ausburn is a resident of Valley Mills and a mother of five. She works in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

Alexis Leigh Neumann, of Lorena, a member of the leadership team at Rapoport Academy Public School, earned a Ph.D. in educational psychology at Baylor University in December.

* Waco students who graduated from Baylor Law School in February were Violet Susanna Fuller, James Robert Ray III (cum laude), K. Christopher Rusek (summa cum laude) and Francis Caroline Squires.

Emily Suzanne Hills, of Hewitt, was named to the dean’s honor list for the fall semester at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

 

* In the Military*

* Air Force Airman 1st Class Jonathan D. Allen (right), a 2007 graduate of A.J. Moore Academy, completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Mark Allen, of Hewitt.

* Air Force Airman Ashley T. Cooke, a 2008 Mart High School graduate, completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She is the daughter of Joi Barr, of Woodway, and Trey Cooke, of Mart.
