Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

* Class Acts *

 

Chidinma Okani, a graduate of Texas Christian Academy, received a $2,500 National Achievement Scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Okani, a resident of McGregor, was among approximately 800 black American high school seniors named as scholarship recipients who reached the finalist level of the program.

Jenny Dagley of Waco and Violet Harcrow of Elm Mott received associate of applied science degrees last month from the Temple College dental hygiene program.

* Students in McLennan Community College’s computer information systems department received awards for outstanding achievement in their programs of study. Honored were:

Computer information systems: Aaron Ameny of Hewitt, Web technology; Christopher Brown of Dawson, application development; Krystal Pruett Harper of Robinson, information systems and applications; Gena Jean of West, media communications; Renee Van Trueren of Waco, Web technology; Theresa Williams of Waco, networking administration.

Paige Beasley of Waco was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Beasley is a freshman journalism major and a graduate of Texas Christian Academy. She is a member of Sigma Phi Lambda and is a contributing writer for The Pine Log, SFA’s student publication. She is the daughter of David and Linda Beasley.

Kathy Patel of the Waco Days Inn was appointed to the board of directors of the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association. She is one of 13 Central Texans named to the board.

Tom Albers of Waco qualified as a “Championship” agent by Farmers Insurance for outstanding performance.

As part of his recognition, he attended a conference in San Diego to discuss new business strategies and issues affecting customers.

* In the Military *

 

* Army Pfc. Lacey J. Hunter, a 2003 Midway High graduate, completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. Hunter is the daughter of Paul and Jill Bukowski of Hewitt.
