Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

 

* Class Acts *

Brandon Davis Darr, a 2004 graduate of West High School, graduated from Texas Tech University in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in geography and environmental sciences.

He is the son Steve and Cindy Darr, of Elm Mott, and the grandson of Arthur and Audrey Williams, also of Elm Mott.

* Members of the Key Club of A.J. Moore Academy reached their goal of volunteering more than 1,000 service hours in the Waco community during the 2010-11 school year.

The Key Club has an ongoing volunteer relationship with various non-profit organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Keep Waco Beautiful and the Cameron Park Zoo. The club also helps at charity fundraising events such as Miracle Match Marathon, Race for the Cure and MudQuest Adventure Run. The A.J. Moore Academy Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Waco.

Carly Robinson, of Clifton, was named to the LeTourneau University dean’s List for the spring semester.

Amy Perkins has been named executive director of the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children by the organization’s board of trustees.

A Waco native, Perkins completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M-Commerce with majors in psychology and counseling. She is enrolled in the doctorate program at Capella University.

Although much of her career has been involved in prosecutor-based victims services, she also has served as a parole officer, associate psychologist, private practice counselor, and in various capacities on the Texas Victim Services Association board.

She and her husband, Dale, and their four sons moved back to Waco in 2006.
