Talk of the Neighborhood: Local achievements and honors for Feb. 6, 2010
Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.
* Class Acts *
* Frances Lee Duron, of Waco, received a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler.
* Area students who graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with bachelor degrees in science are:
Waco — James H. Matthews;
Woodway — Ann T. Reel;
Corsicana — Eva Blair Campbell;
Fairfield — Lisa Renee Peter-son.
* Carly Robinson, of Clifton, was named to the president’s list at LeTourneau University in Longview for the fall term.
* Donna McGoldrick, of West, received a graduate certificate in writing popular fiction from Seton Hill University in Greensboro, Pa.
* Local students who made the honor’s list for the fall semester at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., are Michael Jason Batts and Courtney Cheryell Terry, both of Waco, and, Daniel J. Feltz, of Hewitt.
* Local students who made the dean’s list at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for the fall semester are:
China Spring — Tiffany Bailey, nursing;
Lorena — Courtney Bowman, pre-biomedical sciences/pre-professional; Taryn Kelms, English;
Robinson — Daniel Parker, geographic information science;
Waco — Alicia McKethan, theater; James Muhl, biology.

* Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco was one of the winners of the first Texas Registered Accessibility Specialists Association Accessibility Awards.
The Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities, in partnership with TRASA, announced the recipients. The awards recognize businesses and organizations that have gone above and beyond legal requirements to provide both physical and service accessibility to people with disabilities.
Hillcrest won in the medical and health services division. The other award winners were Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio in the recreation category, and the University of Texas at Arlington Chemistry and Physics Building in Arlington in the education category.
* In the Military*
* Air Force Airman Charlton M. Long (right), a 2009 graduate of Waco High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Stephen Long.
* Army Pvt. Shunese L. Johnson, of Bellmead, graduated from basic combat training at Fort. Sill, Okla. She is a 2010 graduate of La Vega High School and the daughter of Stephanie Wright, of Waco.
* Army Pvt. Jonathon P. Martinez, of Waco, graduated from basic field artillery cannon crewmember advanced individual training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. He is a 2006 graduate of University High and is the son of Eddie and Margarita Martinez, of Waco.
