Talk of the Neighborhood: Local achievements and honors for Feb. 20, 2010
Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.

* Lindsey Ervi, a 2002 Midway High School graduate, was honored as the K-8th grade Educator of the Year for Texas for 2011 by the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
The award was presented Jan. 29 at the TETA TheaterFest 2011 in Houston.
Ervi, a 2006 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, is in her fifth year of teaching at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Leander ISD. Ervi also made an educational presentation at this year’s TheaterFest.
* University High School counselor Patrick Shade has been selected as a 2011 Very Important Counselor by Texas A&M University. The VIC Program recognizes outstanding service by high school counselors, teachers and personnel in guiding students to college. He is one of 24 selected from across the state.
Along with the award, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student from University High planning to attend Texas A&M University or Texas A&M-Galveston in the fall of 2011.

* U.S. Army Cadet Corbin Paul Thomasy (right), the son of Mark and Karen Thomasy, of Clifton, completed cadet basic training at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in August, and finished his first semester as a plebe cadet in December on the dean’s list.
In November 2008, as a high school junior, Thomasy pursued an appointment to the U.S. Military Aca-demy after attending a presentation by former West Point professor Col. “Gabe” Gabrielle to the Bosque Area Christian Homeschool group. With guidance from mentors Mayor Fred Volcansek and Bosque County Judge Cole Word, Thomasy secured separate nominations from then-U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2014 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
His grandparents are Jeannette and B.J. Holliman, of Robinson, and Tom and Lucy Gary, of Clifton.
