Talk of the Neighborhood: Local achievements and honors for Aug. 1, 2010
Talk of the Neighborhood highlights Central Texans’ achievements.
* Class Acts *
* Graduating from Lamar University in Beaumont in the spring semester with master’s degrees were: Bobbi Michelle Allison of Groesbeck, administration; Robert Craig Pritchett of Hewitt, administration; Patricia Elaine Williams of Mart, teacher leadership; Donna Kay Glass of McGregor, administration; Lonna Jan Norwood of Robinson, administration; Monica Letecia Evans, Heather Anna Jenkins, Donna Vaughn Johnigan, David Wayne Petroff, Max Scott Rutherford, all of Waco, administration; and Pamela Jo Clark of West, teacher leadership.
* Jeff SoRelle of Waco graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Centre College in Danville, Ky.
He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa National Academic Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society for leadership. He did collaborative research with Centre professors and was a resident assistant.
A graduate of Vanguard College Preparatory School, he is the son of Don and Kristi SoRelle.
* Ashley Cappiello of Robinson graduated cum laude from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., with Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and allied health.
* Named to the president’s honor roll at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches for the spring semester were Lindsey Pick of Hewitt, interdisciplinary studies; Paige Beasley of Waco, communication journalism, and Eneida Santiago of Waco, art.
* Senior Chelsey Christine Jackson of Waco was named to the president’s list at Oklahoma Christian University for the spring semester.
Named to the honor roll were senior Rebekah Diane Kincheloe of Waco, senior Amy Leann Urbanovsky of China Spring, and junior Lane Randel West of Hewitt.
* Bethany Anne Dietrich of Hewitt was named to provost’s list for the spring semester at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
* Tammy Fay of Waco was named to the president’s list for the spring semester at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie.
Named to the dean’s list was William Perry of Robinson.
* Blaze Blackburn of Waco was named to the vice president’s honorable mention honor roll for the spring semester at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla.
* Seven Midway High School students placed at the 41st Annual Special Olympics Texas Summer Games held May 27-30 at the University of Texas in Arlington. Their results were:
50-meter dash, female — Jor-dan Moreno, 1st; Kylie Thompson, 4th.
50-meter dash, male — Bobby Hilton, 4th,
100-meter dash, female — Allison Nickel, 1st.
100-meter, male — Cody Mills, 1st; Zack Salapatas, 4th.
Running long jump, male — Cody Mills, 1st; Zack Salapatas, 4th.
Standing long jump, male — Jordan Rice, 6th.
Softball throw, female — Allison Nickel, 1st; Kylie Thompson, 4th; Jordan Moreno, 4th.
Softball throw, male — Bobby Hilton, 2nd.

* Air Force Airman George A. Wilhite, a 2009 graduate of Robinson High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of George Wilhite Jr. of Robinson.
