Talk of the Neighborhood: Local achievements and honors for April 8, 2011

Talk of the Neighborhood high-lights Central Texans’ achievements.

* Forty-seven schools within Region 12 were recognized by the Texas Education Agency with 2010-11 Title I Distinguished School Performance and Distinguished School Progress honors.

Distinguished Performance schools are recognized as consistently providing educational excellence, while Distinguished Progress schools are recognized for having made significant strides in reaching educational excellence, all with a student population of 40 percent or more that are low income.

Region 12 districts earning the Distinguished Performance honor included: Axtell, Chilton, Gholson, Goldthwaite, Hamilton, Holland, Hubbard, Itasca, La Vega, Meridian, Midway, Rapoport Academy Public School, Waco and West.

Those earning the Distinguished Progress honor included Clifton, Oglesby, Troy and West.

Campuses that received the 2010-11 Title I Distinguished School Performance were (listed by district, then campus(es):

Axtell ISD — Axtell Elementary;

Chilton ISD — Chilton School;

Dawson ISD — Dawson Ele-mentary;

Gholson ISD — Gholson School;

Goldthwaite ISD — Goldthwaite Middle School;

Hamilton ISD — Ann Whitney Elementary, Hamilton Junior High;

Holland ISD — Holland Elementary, Holland Middle School;

Hubbard ISD — Hubbard Ele-mentary;

Itasca ISD — Itasca Elementary, Itasca High School;

La Vega ISD — La Vega Ele-mentary;

Meridian ISD — Meridian Ele-mentary;

Midway ISD — Hewitt Elementary;

Rapoport Academy Public School — Audre and Bernard Rapoport Academy, Quinn Campus Public Middle School;

Waco ISD — Hillcrest Professional Development School, Kendrick Elementary, Mountainview Elementary, Parkdale Elementary, Viking Hills Elementary;

West ISD — West Elementary, West Intermediate.
