Out-of-town Eagle project

Wil Torpy, a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 453 of Waco, completed his Eagle Scout service project on Sept. 18. Wil’s project involved repainting the entryway signs at Pythian Home in Weatherford. The Pythian Home is a nonprofit facility licensed by the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services to serve up to 62 children. Wil (seen kneeling at bottom right) is the son of Art and Susan Torpy. He is a junior at Weatherford High School and a former student at Waco High.

Adding a fresh coat of paint

Six Robinson FFA members volunteered to paint fire hydrants along Old Robinson Road, U.S. Highway 77 and around the school campuses. Students (pictured, from left) Keeli Nehring, Randy Riddle, Baylee Lange, Callie Taft, Trevor Yglecias and Skyler Warren painted more than 35 hydrants. They were escorted around the city by former Robinson FFA members Chris Mayfield and Dustin Storer along with two other Robinson firefighters.

Sweet sounds of success

Robinson High School band members (from left) Rosie Lingle, Kati Carriveau, Hannah Rosenkranz and Rayvonne Cortright celebrate the announcement that the Pride of the Blue Marching Band earned a spot in the University Interscholastic League State Marching Contest. Robinson, under the direction of Bob Vetter, joins China Spring, Burnet, Kennedale and Taylor at state after advancing from the Class 3A Area D contest held Oct. 23 at a rainy Midway Panther Stadium. The state contest will be Monday in the San Antonio Alamodome. Robinson, which has achieved first-division ratings 34 of the past 35 years, will compete in the 3A preliminaries at 1:45 p.m. China Spring will take the field at 3:30 p.m. as the last 3A band to perform in the prelims. The finals begin at 7 p.m.

Army All-American choice

Zachary Crist (center) of Lorena High School was selected to be a member of the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. Crist will join an elite group of musicians who will perform during halftime at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 8, 2011, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band recognizes the top 125 high school senior marching musicians and color guard members from across the country and showcase their talents at the bowl game, which will be televised live on NBC at noon.
