In prayer on the Capitol steps

The eighth-grade class from Waco Baptist Academy prays for Congressman Chet Edwards (front right) on the steps of the U.S. Capitol during its traveling classroom trip to Washington, D.C., in March 2010. Edwards met with the students and encouraged them “not to get cynical about government.” Before Edwards left, the students asked if they could pray for him and for his service to Central Texas, the state and the country.

‘A Day Made Better’

Alta Vista Montessori first-, second- and third-grade teacher Lisa Howard was surprised recently with more than $1,000 in classroom supplies from OfficeMax. She was one of 1,000 teachers nationwide to receive the gift during the OfficeMax awards sweep called “A Day Made Better.” The initiative brings awareness to the fact that every year teachers spend an average of $1,000 of their own money on classroom supplies. Pictured with Howard (seated) are Waco OfficeMax associates Travis Oliphant, Kristi Lanford, manager Steven Kling and Randall Herrera.
