Horse judging team 4th at state

The Midway High School horse judging team of (from left) Jonathan Motloch, Kelsey Koss, Jamie Pankonien and Morgan Parker placed fourth out of more than 800 teams at the state competition in Lubbock. Last year Motloch, Koss and Parker placed third in the TSU Invitational and were 28th as a team at state. This year the team won the invitational to advance to state.

Local student helps ‘Click It or Ticket’ effort

When the Texas Department of Transportation kicked off its ninth annual “Click It or Ticket” safety-belt enforcement campaign in Austin on May 3, China Spring High School senior Darcey Hyatt shared her experience of surviving a Feb. 13 crash on an icy Interstate 35. She credited her seat belt with saving her life. The “Click It or Ticket” campaign concludes today. Behind Darcey is a 20-foot-tall replica of Big Tex from the State Fair of Texas and a giant safety belt around Austin’s Long Center for the Performing Arts.
