TSTC culinary arts graduate receives internship with Disney World

Texas State Technical College culinary arts graduate Kaitlyn Greb will be making her first trip to Disney World in August, and it won’t be only for fun.

The 18-year-old will begin a one-year internship in Disney World’s kitchens as a chef’s assistant.

Greb, whose interest in cooking began at an early age, started taking dual-credit classes at TSTC when she was 16. As a home-schooled student, she worked her high school schedule around her college classes and still found time to work two part-time jobs.

When she took her advanced pastry class in the TSTC program, she decided to pursue a career in cooking.

She will get to work at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival in the fall, a time when many celebrity chefs visit the park.

His Eagle Scout service project involved making and installing 14 trail junction signs in Cameron Park for the city of Waco Parks and Recreation Department.

Jacob also is an Order of the Arrow Ordeal member, and has both attended and staffed Twin Arrows National Youth Leadership training. He has 40 merit badges.

Building with Legos

Robinson Intermediate School student Jacob Smith, 11, won first place in the Block Kids Lego Construction Contest spon-sored by the National Association of Women in Construction, Waco Chapter.

He went on to place second in the regional competition. Each child was given 100 Lego bricks, a length of string, a piece of tin foil and a rock. From those materials Jacob created a recycling plant.

He is the son of Sampson and Jennifer Smith. Jacob is pictured with Glynna Swanner, treasurer of National Association of Women in Construction, Waco chapter.

Making up the group were (from left) Vietnam veteran Ronnie Ewing, three-war veteran Robert Stone, Lane Dollins, Legion of Honor Commander Bob Bickett, 1st Sgt. Daryle Walker and retired Lt. Col. Paul Sawyer. Stone, 90, served with the Army in three wars — World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Walker recently returned from his second tour in the Middle East.
