Essay contest winners

Two area students attended the 2011 Congressional Seminar in Washington, D.C., for winning a national essay contest sponsored by the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America. Emily Garner (left), of Waco, and Seth Robinson (right), of Clifton, visited the office of U.S. Rep. Bill Flores (R-Bryan) while attending the seminar. Emily is the daughter of May and Paul Garner and attends Rapoport Academy Public School in Waco. Seth is the son of Dayna and Craig Robinson and is home-schooled.

Nikkalas Morris, 12, (back) and Jaden Sanders, 9, hold cards to their heads while participating in a magic show by “The Great Bandini” recently at the Dewey Recreation Center. The show was part of a Juneteenth carnival that featured food, inflatables and educational presentations.

Key Club hits service goal

Members of the Key Club at A.J. Moore Academy volunteered more than 1,000 service hours in the Waco community during the 2010-11 school year. For more information about the group, see Class Acts on this page.

MCC adult education top grads

Stephen Michael Palacios (left) was valedictorian of the 2011 McLennan Community College adult education graduating class. Salutatorian was Michele Stanton, pictured at right with her husband, Jordon Stanton, who was an honor graduate and scholarship recipient.
