Remembering Princanna

J.H. Hines Elementary students gathered in May for the dedication of a garden in memory of 5-year-old Princanna Strain, who died in an accident at the school in 2009. Donations are still being sought for Princanna’s headstone in Doris Miller Memorial Park, where she is buried. About $300 is still owed on the headstone. To donate, call the cemetery at 799-5800.

Bellmead’s eye on safety

Seventy-five children were outfitted with bicycle helmets during a bike safety event May 21 sponsored by the Bellmead Police Department at the Bellmead Walmart. About 75 kids were fingerprinted and 40 had videos taken of them to help police should they become lost or are kidnapped. A number of other activities, including a bicycle obstacle course, were provided during the four-hour event. Six bicycles were donated by Walmart and awarded to children in different age categories.
