The Bear Blog4:10 P.M.: Baylor signed a 19-player football recruiting class, including 15 high school players and four junior college recruits.

Baylor coach Art Briles focused on offensive and defensive linemen and defensive backs.

"This class was about filling needs," Briles said. "We always start up front with the O-line and D-line and this is without a doubt the strongest that's been put together in many years."

Baylor signed every player it expected to sign except Euless Trinity offensive lineman Nila Kasitati, who signed with Oklahoma.

4:40 P.M.: The Baylor track and field team signed the following players to national letters of intent:

Women — Rachel Johnson, Plano, cross country/distance; Ashley Fields, Amherst, N.Y., sprints; Kim Parr, Southlake Carrol, pole vault; Kaitlin West, Glen Rose, triple jumper; Raena Rhone, Chicago-Whitney Young, sprints; Bree Schrader, The Woodlands-College Park, cross country/distance; Kim Kirby, Coppell, distance; and Carlee Kleiber, Amarillo Canyon Randall, distance/cross country.

Men — Mike Stanley, Skillman, N.J.-Montgomery, distance; Matt Galvin, Highland Park, distance/cross country; Austin Bolling, Frisco Centennial, intermediate hurdler; and Everett Walker, Fort Worth Eastern Hills/Barton County C.C., sprints.

Coach Todd Harbour is expecting several more men to sign, including what he expects to be this year's star recruit.

3:15 P.M.: Midway High saw a quartet of seniors sign letters of intent. Stalwart defensive lineman Beau Blackshear inked with Baylor; linebacker Marc Martinez joined other area athletes in choosing Tarleton State; wide receiver Kevin Thomas is going to Texas A&M-Commerce; and receiver Ronnie Lee signed with Tyler Junior College.

2:25 P.M.: Teague quarterback Jake McClain signed with Southern Arkansas University.

1:35 P.M.: We didn't include Mart High's signings from late morning. Lineman Gabe Waples and linebacker D'Shun Kinsey are headed to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to play football.

1:15 P.M.: Baylor soccer has announced the signing of six players today:

Leah Aultman, a defender from St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge, La.; Megan Grindstaff, a goalkeeper from Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tenn.; Justine Hovden, a forward from Badger High School in Lake Geneva, Wis.; Natalie Huggins, a forward from Ursuline Academy in Dallas; Anja Rosales, a midfielder from MacArthur High School in San Antonio; Alexa Wilde, a midfielder from Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill.

The Bears will hold a press conference to talk about the soccer signings at 1:45 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium.

1:05 P.M.: In the Bruceville-Eddy administration building, track and cross country runner Tye Doty got the local afternoon signings under way as he committed to Tarleton State University. There, he will join Crawford standout Chase Rathke, who signed earlier today. A cake with purple and white icing (Tarleton's colors) helped mark the occasion.

12:50 P.M.: Mexia High School was a hotbed of signings this morning. Headlined by stellar running back Doug Gentry signing with Purdue University, Blackcats who signed also included Devin Threat, OL/DL, University of Incarnate Word; Jacob Beachum, OL/DL, Southeast Oklahoma State University; and three with Lon Morris Junior College: Jeramee Strain, WR/DB; Davonta Foreman, WR/DB; and Tyree Green, OL/LB.

11:45 A.M.: With jerseys draped across the table, McGregor seniors Kieran Wilson and Lena Capps signed to play football and softball, respectively.

Wilson signed with Missouri Southern. He played defensive back for the Bulldogs. Capps, a pitcher, is headed to Grayson College.

11:35 A.M.: Baylor has signed Tatum running back B.J. Allen, College of the Sequoias defensive back Kenny Morton and Boys Ranch offensive lineman LaQuan McGowan, giving the Bears 19 signees in the 2011 class.

10:50 A.M.: Baylor has signed 11 players so far Wednesday morning to open NCAA national signing day:

8:50 A.M.: At University High School, cornerback Katron Marshall walked into coach Matt Carroll's office and signed his letter of intent to play at Navarro College, up in the road in Corsicana.

8:30 A.M.: Got our first report from the field, well, specificially the fieldhouse at Waco High, where four players inked their national letters of intent to play football at the college level.

Linebacker Tristan Eche will be headed to Sam Houston State University; offensive lineman Landon Boffman will go to East Texas Baptist University; defensive lineman Quincy Sims is heading to Texas A&M-Commerce; and punter James Eberhart inked with Trinity University.

University High was supposedly doing its signings at the same time, but we haven't heard on those yet.

8:25 A.M.: Not the time we had hoped to begin our online roundup of high school players making their college intentions official, but like the rest of Central Texas, we were hit with power outages right around 8 a.m.
