The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District has ordered the Fairfield Inn and Suites, 4257 N. Interstate 35 in Lacy Lakeview, to develop a water maintenance plan, maintain a water temperature of 140 degrees and notify all guests of the risks of Legionnaires’ disease, according to a health district press release.
Four guests of the hotel since October have reported Legionnaires’ disease, a bacterial form of pneumonia “often associated with large or complex water systems, like those found in hospitals, hotels and cruise ships,” according to the health district.
The most recent case was reported Thursday.
The disease is not transmitted person to person. Infections are caused by inhalation of mist or vapor containing the bacteria, according to the health district.
