Chip and Joanna Gaines have announced via social media they are expecting a fifth child, and the international response sheds some light on the popularity of Magnolia Market at the Silos.
Twitter and Instagram overheated when the stars of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” and all things Magnolia proclaimed Tuesday that a seventh person would be joining the Gaineses’ cast of characters, probably in July.
Hundreds of outlets breathlessly shared the news, with sources as far-flung and diverse as Fox News, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, New York Post, Huffington Post, TMZ, perezhilton.com, babynames.com, Dallas Observer, The Hollywood Gossip, CNN, Daily Mail, People and Bravo joining the act.
Joanna has tweeted that Chip swears the new arrival will wear blue.
No word yet on whether the Gaineses will choose to name the child Sophia or Jackson, the most popular for girls and boys, respectively, in 2017, according to babycenter.com, but precedent would suggest otherwise. Their other youngsters, ranging in age from 7 to 12, are named Emmie, Ella, Drake and Duke.
Fox News and People.com highlighted past question-and-answer sessions with Chip and Joanna, in which the couple talked about efforts to shield their little ones from the glare of publicity and their “strict” approach to discipline.
Baylor Athletics chimed in with congratulations to their “friends” Chip and Joanna on news “they are having another future Bear.” The Gaineses graduated from Baylor University, and they frequently can be seen at Baylor sporting events, Chip in particular.
The Gaineses have announced the fifth and current season of “Fixer Upper” is their last, saying they want to spend more quality time with their family.
In October, Chip told Houston ABC affiliate KTRK that he found it more than coincidental he and Joanna had not had another child since the inception of Fixer Upper, a situation he hoped to address.
“We had four babies right before the show started, and then we’ve had zero babies since the show started,” he told the station. “For me, I’m really excited to go back and try to maybe … try to make some more babies.”
Chip Gaines’ Instagram included a photo of him and Joanna admiring each other’s “baby bump,” and dishing out assurances they are expecting.
The Gaineses have become a phenomenon, their reality TV show achieving consistently high ratings. An estimated 5,000 people a day visit Magnolia Market at the Silos, contributing mightily to the estimated 2 million people now traveling to Waco annually.
They also offer residences to the public for stays in Central Texas, and both have written best-selling books. The Target retailing chain, meanwhile, offers a line of Magnolia housewares.
