Flames burned through the roof of a vacant home in the 2200 block of North 42nd Street on Monday afternoon before fire crews extinguished the blaze and disconnected utilities to the home, Waco Deputy Fire Marshal Gary Lee said.
Fire crews were called shortly before 3:45 p.m. to the single-story home near Hillcrest Elementary School when flames were seen coming from the side and roof of the home. Firefighters forced their way into the home and attacked the fire from inside the house. It took about 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
Lee said the home is listed for sale and the home owners were not there. He said utility companies disconnected working utilities following the fire.
Firefighters got on the roof and ventilated rising smoke from the home. Lee said no injuries were reported.
Fire personnel at the house said they thought the fire may have been caused by an electrical issue in the back side of the property, but Lee said the cause of the fire remained under investigation late Monday afternoon.
