Fans of the Lake Waco Dam Trail will get a brief window to use it for the next few weeks.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials earlier this week said the trail would remain closed for the next few months due to work on the earthen dam and the spillway gates. The trail has been closed since May because of vandalism and rain-related damage on the dam’s back side.
But on Friday, Lake Waco manager Heath McLane said the repair work had been pushed back until mid-October, giving lake officials enough time to reopen the trail temporarily, effective immediately. He said security concerns with the previous vandalism incidents have been addressed.
The trail is accessible at the Airport Road access point, Skeet Eason Road and Lake Shore Drive. Access to the trail from Bosque Park is not permitted.
