A Waco man who police say shot another man in the back during an altercation at a bar in June was indicted Wednesday.

A McLennan County grand jury indicted Eric Hernandez, 21, for murder in the June 25 shooting death of 24-year-old Deon Dashawn Love.

Police say Love was shot several times in the back about 1:30 a.m. after an argument with Hernandez at Jesters Bar, 2119 LaSalle Ave.

Hernandez’s attorney, Gerald Villarrial, declined comment about the case Wednesday.

Hernandez fled the scene before officers arrived, but was arrested later that morning, police said.

The murder charge against Hernandez was enhanced by a prior conviction for delivery of cocaine in a drug-free zone. The enhancement increases the minimum punishment he faces from five to 15 years in prison, if convicted.

He remains in the McLennan County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
