A Lacy Lakeview man who police say fired a shot into the ceiling during a robbery at a smoke shop was indicted Wednesday on two counts of aggravated robbery.

A McLennan County grand jury indicted Joey Dale McCain, 48, in the Nov. 3 robbery of Kristy Smoke Shop, 121 N. Lacy Drive.

Police say McCain was wearing a camouflage hooded sweatshirt, blue gloves and a bandana when he brandished a gun and robbed the store clerk of $139. He also took money from a customer at gunpoint, police said.

No injuries were reported, but McCain fired a shot into the ceiling during the robbery, police said. Another customer in the store followed McCain outside and alerted police.

Lacy Lakeview, Texas State Technical College, Connally ISD and West police joined the investigation and McCain was taken into custody a short time later in the 100 block of Main Street in West, according to police reports. Police found a gun and other items that matched the description of what the robber was wearing in McCain’s vehicle, reports indicate.

McCain remained jailed Wednesday under bonds totaling $120,000.
