Unincorporated areas of McLennan County are under a ban on outdoor burning ordered by the McLennan County Commissioners earlier this week.
The ban prohibits outdoor fires in unincorporated areas, including fires in a container, barrel or hopper. It does not include grills, barbecues or smokers used for cooking food.
The ban is in effect for up to 90 days unless lifted earlier by the county.
Mountainview parade
The Mountainview Neighborhood Association will have its fifth annual Independence Day parade, starting at 9:30 a.m. today from Mountainview Elementary School, 5901 Bishop St. Parade lineup begins at 9:15.
Fall prevention course
The Heart of Texas Area Agency on Aging is sponsoring a fall-prevention training class beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sul Ross Senior Center, 401 N. 15th St.
The class is free to people age 60 and older and will meet Mondays and Fridays through July 31.

Officials workshop
The Heart of Texas Council of Governments is sponsoring a workshop for elected officials from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 17 at the HOTCOG facility, 1415 S. New Road.
Speakers include Waco Mayor Virginia Dupuy, Baylor University law professor Mike Morrison and attorneys Alan Bojorquez and Charlie Olson.
Cost is $40. Registration is required by Wednesday.

Sarcoma Fun Run/Walk
Sponsors and door prizes are needed for the Team Sarcoma 5K and 1K Fun Run/Walk scheduled for 8 a.m. July 18 at Indian Spring Park. Race-day registration will begin at 7 a.m.
The race is in honor of 9-year-old Andrew Moore and will benefit the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative.
