String quartet at BU
The Baylor University School of Music will present the Juilliard String Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at Baylor’s Roxy Grove Hall as part of its Distinguished Artist Series.
General admission tickets cost $15, or $10 for students, senior adults and Baylor faculty and staff.

Diabetes care class
Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District are sponsoring a “Do Well Be Well with Diabetes” class from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 12, 14, 21, 26 and 28 in the training room at the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, 225 W. Waco Drive.
The class will cover diet planning, nutrition, medications, foot care and other self-management issues.
The class is geared toward diabetics and their family members. Classes are free for first-time participants, but registration is required.

Wine tasting class
The Central Texas Chapter of the Wine Society of Texas is sponsoring a wine aroma and tasting class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Uncorked Wine Bar, 1201 Hewitt Drive, No. 200.
Cost is $25 for wine society members and $35 for nonmembers. Space is limited to 30 participants. Tickets are available at Uncorked or The Grape, 2006 N. Valley Mills Drive.

TSTC spring sign-ups
Texas State Technical College Waco, 3801 Campus Drive, will conduct registration for the spring semester from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Thursday. Classes begin Jan. 12.
Financial-aid processing can take several weeks to complete, so those needing financial assistance should contact the TSTC Financial Aid Office as soon as possible at 867-4814.

Race for Cure event
The Central Texas affiliate for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure will have a kickoff event for the 2009 Race for the Cure at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at Zak and Jim’s Hog Creek Ice House, 170 Branson Trail.
The event will have a Mardi Gras theme and a cash bar. The annual Race for the Cure will be April 18 in Indian Spring Park.
