County enacts partial fireworks ban
New Year’s Eve will have a little less boom and sizzle this year because of a countywide ban on certain aerial fireworks ordered Tuesday.
Skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins will not be allowed for the holiday in a ban enacted by County Judge Jim Lewis on Tuesday.
Lewis also enacted a 60-hour disaster declaration for the county at noon Tuesday, citing the potential danger of wildfires in drier parts of the county. The county commissioner’s court Tuesday voted to extend the county’s burn ban.
Sheriff Larry Lynch said deputies distributed the ban order to fireworks stands in the area. Operators must pull the restricted items. Deputies will be on normal patrol tonight to enforce the ban.
Sale or use of the banned fireworks is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.

You can bet that out in the rural areas, the sheriff's department will be right on top of things. Fire, bands, excessive noise, partying... Heaven forbid anybody have any fun on New Years...

The burn ban is reactive not proactive. What's the use of the burn ban if it is not enforced? Two days ago the neighbors had a fire going outside the house where the party was happening. I informed them of the burn ban and asked them to please put the fire out. I was told to mind my own business, so I did and called the 911 and informed then of this fire. No one showed up to handle the problem. The people who have some snap don't need the county to tell them when not to burn, and the folks who don't care about the hazards are going to do what they want.
