Fire has destroyed a house and damaged several other adjacent buildings in Mexia, authorities said.
The blaze started about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday at a residence at 602 E. Carthage St., Mexia Fire Chief Clayton Shivers said.
Heavy winds carried the blaze to a two-story garage apartment behind the residence and to the roof of a house at 600 E. Carthage St., Shivers said.
None of the buildings was occupied when the fire started, but Shivers said the home and garage apartment at 602 E. Carthage St. were destroyed.
He said the cause of the fire remained under investigation late Wednesday.
