A Waco man died early Saturday morning when he stepped into moving traffic and was struck by a car, authorities said.
Charles Lina, 33, stepped in front of a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Justin Keith Coffee, 23, of Waco, around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Waco Drive and 16th Street, a Waco police spokesman said.
Lina was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 6:33 a.m., the spokesman said.
Coffee was cited for having expired registration, expired insurance and no liability insurance, the spokesman said.

Insurance or no insurance; you are not responsible for another person's actions. A man stepped off a curb into traffic; we don't know why. But Mr. Coffee should not be held accountable regardless of what his liablility insurance situation is. It is remarkable to see some of the comments here; as if Mr. Coffee should have to support Mr. Lina's family for the rest of his life since he had the misfortune of being the one on the road when the man left the curb. Talk about a litigation-crazy society. I can see it now; people stepping off curbs in front of the BMWs and the Lexi; ending it all so that their families might profit from their death and live comfortably. Can you see how ridiculous that sounds? I can't believe I have to share the same air with some of you people.
And on a side note to HISBABIGIRL or however you spelled it-- Get some insurance; it's as cheap as $30 a month. The cops can run your license plates and tell if you have it or not-- that's an automatic ticket and possible license suspension. It will cost you thousands of dollars WHEN you are caught. You are taking a huge risk not only for yourself but everyone who shares the road with you. Can you imagine being in a car wreck that took your legs away from you or something bad like that? Who is going to pay for your medical bills? Support your kids when you can't work? Keep your lights and heat on? What if the accident wasn't your fault and the other person didn't have insurance? There are too many what ifs and it will be too late to get it when you do need it.

I can't believe a man is dead and all people can write about it the fact that the driver didn't have insurance. It wouldn't have mattered if he did or didn't ... The accident still would have happened.
I'm not sure what has happened to compassion, but it's exactly what is wrong in this world. Instead of blasting the driver for not having insurance, why don't we mourn the loss of life.
I feel pity for the posters that are so full of negativity. Hopefully, if something tragic happens in your life you are shown compassion instead of the hate and harsh judgements of others.
As for Fred ... He is probably just some bitter, lonely sole and we are the only people on the planet that take the time to listen to his rants. I feel sorry for him.

Yes Gwen I have seen some of Fred's comments. He is blatantly negative in his postings. That's a given. Your paragraph however, wreaks of bitterness, rage, and vile contempt toward him in general because of his negativity. Those characteristics are born within you. That's what should really concern you. You know what they say, "You don't get orange juice when you squeeze a lemon. You only get what's inside." Fred's comments squeezed you, obviously. And then you bled forth with bitterness, rage, and vile contempt. That is all...

so you are trying to tell me that if Justin wouldnt have been driving someone else wouldnt have hit him? Or you are trying to tell me if Justin had a insurance card in his glove box, this man wouldnt be dead? Or how about this how bout lets keep blaming Justin and maybe he will kill himself and Riley can grow up without a dad. Yeah that will make it all better. Yeah lets let Justin pay this mans family for the rest of his life that will bring him back and make Justin feel tons better huh? I am sorry to say but some people are just idiots. I hope none of you ever have to go through what Charles's family and friends or Justins family and friends are going through.

You know somethings shouldnt happen but they do. I drive around everyday without insurance and luckily havent had to go through what JUSTIN is. Remeber he has a little boy who needs him its not like he is the one who caused the accident at all. When you were young didnt your mother teach you look both ways before crossing the street. I mean the man was 33 years old wasnt he smart enough to have common sense? I do apoligize for his families loss but remeber what we do there is a consequence in our own actions.

Wow, GWEN, you should go back and read through each sentence you've just posted. Me thinks you've presented a pretty clear case of self-condemnation through your lambasting of Fred. I'm sure most psychiatrists worth their weight in gold would agree.
Sorry, Christi, but like you said, "It was an accident." and that is precisely why the state mandates liability insurance for all vehicles on the road. Tragic as it may be, Justin was consciously breaking the law and now another man's family must bear the brunt of the reality left behind - loss of a loved one AND breadwinner. Let's hope Justin resloves this issue through a lifetime of wage garnishment for the Lina family and then, but only then, maybe he can get on with life through a clean conscience - maybe even start taking the bus instead of violating state law.
