Margaret Mills spent her first night in prison Friday.
Mills, 67, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars as executive director of Downtown Waco Inc., rode a McLennan County Sheriff’s Office bus Friday with several other female prisoners to the Woodman State Jail in Gatesville.
Mills had been housed in the McLennan County Jail’s medical segregation unit since 54th State District Judge Matt Johnson sentenced her to nine years in prison Nov. 10.
The Woodman unit is an intake facility where new prisoners go through the classification process, said Texas prison spokesman Jason Clark.
Prison officials consider an inmates’s educational level, psychological background, medical history, age, work experience and other factors before determining to which prison unit to assign her, Clark said.
It could be several weeks before Mills is moved to her assigned unit, Clark said. While there are female prison units in South Texas, the majority of female prisons are in the Gatesville area, Clark said. Those include the Woodman, Murray, Hilltop, Crain and Mountainview units.
Mills likely will have to serve a little more than two years before she becomes eligible for parole, county officials have said.

I love how Bush made you break the law. How did he do it? Did he personally show up at your door and guide your hand to criminal activity? As someone who is grateful for everything GOD has given me, I accept the fact that healthcare is a privilge. Don't go around blaming other people for what you did. You did it so own it! That's the problem with criminals today. "I didn't do it" "They made me do it" "it wasn't my fault". People expect the tax dollars to punish the wrong doers as long as it isn't they who get in trouble.
This woman got what she deserved. She commited a crime and she needed to be punished just like any of us would have been. Justice souldn't put people on a pedestal and in this case there are some people who are upset that MM didn't get put on a pedestal because she did such wonderful things to downtown waco. HELLO! She stole HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars. People who actually pay taxes should be infuriated as well as the people who made donations to downtown waco! We shouldn't judge our peers on their money, where they come from, or who they rub elbows with. We should look at them for who they are and what they bring to the table.

Look at downtown Waco now without her or the Downtown Inc. board. More progress has taken place within the last year than the last 30 years. Finally Waco's old money is dieing off or going to prison and the city is benfiting from it. Waco remember those upper class last names don't let history come back and bite you in the future.

I live in Florida, but just learned of this incident last week. I know nothing about Mrs. Mills otherwise. The picture shown in the article projected great fear and sadness on her face. I could not help but feel compassion. This, however, should not be mistaken for my desire for justice to be done for any wrong doing. We all come up short and have made very poor decisons in our life from time to time, and have had to pay the price for those times. Judgment from other human beings, who have done worse, seem to feel it is there responsibility to tell us how bad or stupid we are. It would be better served if we could critique ourselves first, before pointing the finger - not that there is not a purposeful time to do that, but if we could forgive and be accountable to each other with a desire for unity and peace, how much better would each of our lives be? Mrs. Mills was found guilty, and she will pay the price. The shame is there created by what looks to be greed, but can't we offer resolve and hope for anyone who has made a grievous mistake, using positive energy to produce a heartfelt change? Christ did!

Don't forget about the Commissioners problems...Heard about their progress (or lack thereof) lately? Um.....nope.
And what about that lawsuit regarding the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame? Any word on that Waco Trib? Um.....nope.
There's a reason I no longer subscribe to their nonsense.....And I will now no longer view their nonsense online.

You're right.......Carlos has no spine. He's shown that time and time again. Do you remember when the Hispanic Chamber was having their ongoing problems? Of course you don't.......the Trib has conveniently forgot about that little episode. But they're the first to highlight the Margaret Mills case. In my opinion, both cases are a disgrace--but Carlos and his Trib staff obviously have their own agendas. When was the last time you read about "Mr. Molester" in the Trib? You haven't, because Carlos and his crew covers it up.

Please don't be critical of Margaret on these chat rooms.
It makes Carlos sad!
