Hearing today expected to decide whether Margaret Mills trial moves from Waco

Wednesday, September 03, 2008

By Cindy V. Culp

Tribune-Herald staff writer

A judge is expected to rule today whether the trial of former Downtown Waco Inc. executive director Margaret Mills should be moved out of McLennan County.

A pretrial hearing in the felony theft case against Mills is scheduled for this afternoon in front of 54th State District Judge Matt Johnson.

A change of venue motion that Mills’ attorneys filed in July is the main issue that will be addressed during the hearing.

Mills, 67, was indicted in November on first-degree felony charges in the alleged theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars while serving as head of the downtown development agency.

In the motion to move the trial, Mills’ attorneys argued news accounts have created “so great a prejudice against the defendant that the defendant cannot obtain a fair and impartial trial” in McLennan County.

All of you loud mouthed, big, bad people hoop and hollar about the constitution, justice, what good Christians & 'Mericuns you are. Justice is not a word or consideration in your slim vocabularies. When and if there is a trial, an aquittal or conviction, of Margaret Mills and after all the extenuating circumstances are considered by the jury and judge, she will receive, hopefully, true and fair justice.

None of you mean spirited freaks believe in the American system of justice. You are just like the so-called "good people" who crucified an innocent man 2000 years ago and you are still crucifying people today regardless of circumstances. You are a mob just waiting to hang someone simply for the fun of hanging someone...especially someone who is down. You don't know all the facts yet you have convicted Mrs. Mills before a trial has occurred. Don't tell me about your good citizenship, you sleazy scabies. Don't tell me about your church going days or your love of flag and constitution. Hell, you have just spat in the face of Jesus and the US Constitution with the mean spirited words in your posts. I hope you beg God for forgiveness for your haughtyness & mean spiritedness ASAP.

She should be punished just like the rest of Waco. Even worse for stealing funds from the city. Texas prisons are exploding with young men that have committed much lesser crimes!!

Why should she get special treatment just because she is well known in the community? You do the crime here, you have your trial here. I don't think it is fair for her to move her trial out of the county just so people don't know her. She will get the same results no matter where she is.
