Up ahead: Lynch faces Democratic nominee Charles Hutyra in November. If Lynch wins, he’ll begin his third term in January.
Issues: Gates said he and Lynch didn’t see eye to eye on certain issues and that it was time for him to leave when Lynch became sheriff in 2000. Lynch refused to discuss why Gates left, citing “personnel matters.” During the campaign, Gates attacked Lynch for jail overcrowding and operational deficiency citations by the state jails commission.
