McGregor ISD students have held efforts to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

McGregor Primary School staff recently launched a supply drive to collect cleaning supplies. Parents, staff members and local community members donated enough funds to fill the entire bed of a pickup truck with supplies.

The trash bags, mold cleaners, bleach, buckets and dish soaps were delivered to Huffman, where McGregor High graduate Molly Hutchinson Smith’s home and neighborhood was flooded.

Smith and her brother traveled back to McGregor to pick up the supplies and were overwhelmed by the support.

Principal Cheri Zacharias said that most of the homes in Smith’s neighborhood were flooded and ruined on the inside, needing complete renovation of the interiors.

The elementary and junior high campuses are collecting change in another fundraising effort.

Officers of the high school’s National Honor Society organized a lunchtime fundraiser and raised more than $300 for the American Red Cross. The high school student council officers also manned a booth at last Friday’s football game and collected just over $300 for the Texas High School Coaches Association Benevolence Fund.
