The McGregor High School cross-examination debate team won the district championship at the UIL meet in Whitney Jan. 17.
The team took the top three places at district.
Sam Dutschmann and Shae Langenegger earned first place. Joseph Mooney and Angel Lopez claimed second place, and Kaylen Sloan and Isaac Orozco captured third place.
Dutschmann was also voted Best Speaker.
This year’s topic is whether the United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States. The team members were asked to prepare arguments for both the pro and con side of the debate.
The students will compete next at the state competition in Austin on March 12-13.
