The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the son of Andrea Jones, of Waco, and Marty Jones, of Augusta, Georgia.

Pitching in

The University High School soccer and University High School JROTC programs have each accumulated numerous community service hours over the years. This year they are joining forces again for the ninth annual “Make a Wish Come True” program.

Last year the groups filled 180 wishes for students in the Univerity High School sector. In order to participate, all schools in the UHS sector are asked to have their students write a short essay explaining what they want for Christmas and why.

Representatives from Bell’s Hill, Kendrick, South Waco, Alta Vista, Cesar Chavez and University High will read the papers and submit the 30 best to the UHS representatives. The wishes will be granted on each campus before Christmas.

Most kids request jackets and blankets because of the cold weather. Some ask for school supplies. They also ask for items for their brothers and sisters. Rarely do they request items for themselves, and seldom do they ask for toys.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a child can contact either Mike Chapman at michael.chapman@wacoisd.org, Leonard Montelongo at leonard.montelongo@wacoisd.org. or call 744-4533.

Send submissions to neighborplus@wacotrib.com.
