DAR essay winner

Barbara Lewandowski with the Daughters of the American Revolution presents Ryan Kirby of Lorena High School with his Good Citizen certificate.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Elizabeth Gordon Bradley chapter in Waco recently awarded DAR Good Citizen Award Certificates to graduating seniors at five high schools.

Certificates went to Olivia Pulcine of China Spring High, Cierra Stewart of Connally High, Grayson Graham of Eagle Christian Academy, Ryan Kirby of Lorena High and Angel Lopez of McGregor High.

Each student was chosen for having the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. If they chose, the students could enter the scholarship essay contest, which all did. This year’s topic was: “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It: How has America Advanced the Cause of Freedom in the Rest of the World?”

All essays were judged by non-DAR members. This year’s winning essay was written by Ryan Kirby, who attends Lorena High.
