Wireless giant Sprint has announced it will open 79 new retail locations in Texas, including two in Waco, though it is not yet prepared to say where it will place the local stores, according to a company press release.
Sprint already has more than 2,700 employees and 350 stores in Texas. It has stores in Waco at Central Texas Marketplace and 1107 N. Valley Mills Drive.
“This retail expansion is our largest initiative in Texas since the launch of Sprint PCS stores,” Central Texas Regional President John Stevens wrote in the press release.
The expansion will create more than 550 new retail, operations and technical jobs, according to the press release.
Monday best for fill-ups
Motorists needing to top off their gas tanks may want to consider visiting the nearest convenience store on a Monday.
A report by GasBuddy.com reveals that Monday offers the lowest average price for a gallon of gasoline, “making it the best day to fill the tank,” it said in a press release. “Thursday is the worst day to buy gas, having the most expensive average.”
GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices nationwide, said it analyzed three years of data to arrive at its conclusion.
To put the amount of savings in perspective, if every U.S. motorist bought gasoline on Thursday for an entire year, they would collectively spend an extra $1.1 billion versus filling up on Monday, GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan said.
The data reveal that the best day to buy may change from year to year and state to state. So far this year, Monday is the best day of the week in 23 states. Last year, Monday was the day featuring the lowest average gasoline prices in 36 states, while eight states showed the biggest bargains were found on Tuesdays.

He also is a member of the 110 Club of the Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee and has earned the following designations: Certified Residential Specialist, Graduate Realtor Institute Certification, Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource Certification, and the Certified Military Residential Specialist.
Collins, who has been selling real estate in Waco for about 17 years, received his award during the American Home Week luncheon recently held at the Carleen Bright Arboretum.
Hewitt Drive storage
Waco businessman Gordon Swanson’s project at 500 Hewitt Drive has attracted a lot of attention and inquiries.
Swanson dismantled several dozen 18-year-old storage units that were not climate-controlled and will erect a new Aaron’s Self Storage facility in which all units have climate control.
“Taking them down made the place look like a war zone,” Swanson said. “We disassembled them for use at another site.”
He said about 555 storage units were spread across the site, which will become home to 625 units. The new storage complex, which will carry a price tag of $1.3 million, according to a building permit, will sport a rock-and-stucco exterior “that will look first class,” Swanson said. “This is a big upgrade that better suits the area.”
Swanson said the storage units will rent for $1.10 to $1.20 a square foot and range in size from 50 to 300 square feet.
He owns six Aaron’s locations in Greater Waco, having just placed 722 units at Speegleville Road and U.S. Highway 84.
La Madeleine coming
Yes, la Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe still plans to open a restaurant in Central Texas Marketplace.
A Waco resident who dined at la Madeleine in another city inquired about progress being made on placing a restaurant locally.
He received a reply to his comment card, which he passed along to the Tribune-Herald.
“Bonjour Robert, thank you for reaching out to us with your question about the new Waco cafe,” the response says. “We are excited to be coming to your local community.”
The comment was signed by Sara Cooper, who oversees guest relations for la Madeleine. She went on to say she does not yet have an official opening day to share.
