The Waco-McLennan County Office of Emergency Management invites the public to attend a McLennan County Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. in the Bosque Theater at the Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave.

The purpose of Tuesday’s meeting is to review and share with the public our county Hazard Mitigation Action Plan and Hazardous Material Annex information. The HMAP planning process is designed to reduce the loss of life and property during times of hazardous events.

The public is invited to make comments or suggestions. City, county and emergency management officials will be on hand to answer any questions. All comments received from the public will be documented and considered for inclusion in the HMAP.

Caritas tour

Caritas of Waco will host a lunch tour of its facilities Wednesday, Oct. 11 at noon in the second-floor boardroom. The hour tour includes a light lunch. To make a reservation, contact Ann Owen, development director, by Tuesday at 753-4593, ext. 213, or by email at aowen@caritas-waco.org.

Toastmaster meeting

Waco Toastmaster International hosts a weekly meeting Wednesday from 7 to 7:50 a.m. at the Association of General Contractor’s office, 4500 West Waco Drive.

Watercolor society

The Central Texas Watercolor Society meets Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 1624 Wooded Acres. The 9 a.m. meeting features “Splatter: Technique and Uses.”

Mayborn Halloween

The Mayborn Museum hosts Halloween in Design Den on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

In the front area, all ages are invited to make music to add to our Scary Symphony using Makey Makey. In the Design Den Studio, visitors ages 8 and up (with a parent or guardian signature) can create costume accessories, including paper masks, LED light-up jewelry, hair accessories, and more. Admission to the museum includes Halloween in Design Den activities.

Baylor University students and museum members receive free admission.
