The Waco Solid Waste Offices and Cobbs Recycling Center will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. The landfill will be closed Thursday. On Friday, the landfill will be closed to the public but will accept franchise haulers until 4:30.

In Waco, Thursday’s trash will be collected Wednesday. Friday’s trash will be collected Friday as usual.

Documentary screening

Waco Friends of Peace/Climate will screen the documentary “The Broken Moon: Climate and the Himalayas,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Poppa Rollo’s Pizza in Waco.

The event is free and includes a pizza and salad buffet.

World Day of Prayer

Community leader Donell Teaff and newly elected executive director of Texas Woman’s Missionary Union Tamiko Jones will be featured speakers at the 2017 Women’s World Day of Prayer observance. A brunch will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall at Baylor University’s George W. Truett Seminary. A program will follow at 10.

MPO open house

The Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization and Waco Transit System Inc. are hosting an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Bellmead Civic Center, 3900 Parrish St.

The organizations are conducting a study to evaluate the potential for rapid transit in the city of Waco. The public is invited to provide input in the planning process to design a transit system that best serves the community.

Chronic disease class

The Area Agency on Aging is hosting a chronic disease self-management program at 2 p.m. every Thursday at the Falls Community Hospital conference room, 322 Coleman St. in Marlin.

Preregistration is required and available by calling 292-1855. There will be six classes, starting Nov. 30 and running through Jan. 25.
