City of Waco offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Details follow concerning some specific services and departments:
- Solid Waste Services will not run collection routes Thursday. Thursday’s routes will be picked up Wednesday. Friday’s trash collection will run as scheduled. The Cobbs Convenience Center and landfill will be closed Thursday and Friday but will accept franchise haulers Friday until 4:30 p.m.
- The Waco-McLennan County Library System will close all four libraries at 5 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed Thursday and Friday. The libraries will reopen Saturday for their regularly scheduled hours.
- Waco Transit will not run routes Thanksgiving Day, but the transit terminal will remain open for Greyhound customers. Normal operations will resume Friday. Transit Administration offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.
- Cameron Park Zoo, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum and Waco Mammoth National Monument will be closed Thanksgiving Day. The attractions will reopen Friday.
Fruitcakes for sale
United Methodist Men is selling Collin Street Bakery fruitcakes and pecans at the corner of Lake Air and Cobbs drives from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day through Saturday.
All proceeds benefit local charities.
Bus to La Vega game
La Vega High School’s football team will play King High School in an area playoff game at 2 p.m. Friday at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio. A bus has been chartered for fans and will depart at 9:30 a.m. from the athletic field house.
The cost is $35 per person, and light refreshments will be served. Game tickets are not included with the bus trip.

Shoe donations sought
Project Aspire, a financial literacy program under the guidance of NeighborWorks Waco, is collecting gently used boys and girls tennis shoes for homeless students in the area.
Shoes may be dropped off at 922 Franklin Ave. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays through Dec. 1.
