The Global Revive Organization will have a Martin Luther King Empowerment Banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday.

It will be held in the Multi Purpose Center at Rapport Academy. Tickets are $25 each and are available at the door or at Mcdowell Cafe on Dallas Street.

HOT Fair Sweethearts

The Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo presented by H-E-B is looking to fill its 2018-19 Sweetheart roster with young women from Waco and surrounding areas with a heart to serve the community.

The selection of the Sweethearts is based on personal interviews, personality, congeniality, poise and communications skills. Eligible Sweetheart contestants can also compete for the title of Miss Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo.

Applications can be picked up from local high school counselors, or in the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo Office at 4601 Bosque Blvd. All applications are due to the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo Office on or before noon on Feb. 2.

Christian Women’s Job Corps

Christian Women’s Job Corps of McLennan County will have a volunteer-training session from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at 1101 Wooded Acres Drive, Suite 107.

This training is open to all volunteers interested in making a difference through tutoring, mentoring, serving as an encourager, serving on the snack team or teaching math concepts, language arts, computer skills or keyboarding.

The Free Enterprise Forum will host Richard Vedder, a distinguished professor of economics emeritus at Ohio University and adjunct scholar at American Enterprise Institute. Vedder will give a talk titled “Can Markets Improve College Education and Make it More Affordable?”
