Democratic forum

A forum for Democratic candidates for Texas House of Representatives District 12 and for Precinct 2 McLennan County Commissioner will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Mart Community Center, 800 E. Bowie St.

Dinner and a movie

The Community Race Relations Coalition will host a dinner and screen “Marshall” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 503 N. 30th St.

Dinner is provided by the coalition board, and donations are accepted. “Marshall” tells the story of a landmark case handled by Thurgood Marshall before he became a Supreme Court Justice. The event is free and open to all, but reservations are required by emailing or calling 717-7903.

Literacy Coalition

The Central Texas Literacy Coalition will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Michaelis Academic Center Room 111 at McLennan Community College. Fred Hills will be the guest speaker. The public is invited to attend.

Writers workshop

Karol Ladd will speak to the Christian Writers Workshop during a workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Woodway, 13000 Woodway Drive.

Ladd is a Baylor University alumna and author of several books. The workshop is free and open to the public.
