Mother Neff State Park is hosting its First Day Hikes on Monday.
Those attending should take a water bottle and join a park ranger for a hike on the first day of the new year. Four ranger-led hikes will be held, beginning at 9 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. Arrive 30-45 minutes early to give plenty of time to check in at the park headquarters.

Mission Waco’s 56-bed homeless shelter, called My Brother’s Keeper, located at 1217 Mary Ave., is open for adult males and females without cost during the approaching cold weather. Residents are requested to register at the Meyer Center, 1226 Washington Ave., during the day, and check in by 6:30 p.m.
However, due to the extreme cold, check-in is extended at the shelter itself until 10 p.m. to be sure everyone has a safe place. In case of filled bed-capacity, additional mattresses will be secured.
New Year’s Eve dance
The Waco Hispanic Museum in sponsoring a New Year’s Eve dance, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Mutualista Hall, 2214 S. 15th St.
Admission costs $10. Tejano Crossroad Band will perform, along with Conjunto Villarrial, featuring Moses Villarrial.
Holiday golf classic
The Waco Junior Golf Association, will have its annual Holiday Classic at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Ridgewood Country Club, 7301 Fish Pond Road.
The tour is open to any junior golfer age 18 and younger. Age groups for boys and girls are 15-18, 13-14, 11-12, and 10 and younger.
Entry fee costs $45.

Church Under the Bridge will meet at 3014 Maple Ave. at 10 a.m. Sunday. There will be no worship under the Interstate 35 bridge this Sunday.
The American Legion hosts a New Year’s Eve dance at 8 p.m. Sunday at 202 S. Jefferson St. in McGregor.
Admission costs $8 per person or $15 for a couple. Jus Country and Mary J will perform live. For more information, call 840-4319.
Elm Mott dance
Bobby Dean & Timeless Country will perform at a New Year’s Eve Dance at 8 p.m. Sunday at American Legion Post 121, 722 Leroy Parkway in Elm Mott.
Admission costs $15 for individuals, $25 per couple. Doors open at 6 p.m.
