Vulture awareness day at Waco zoo
Cameron Park Zoo, 1701 N. Fourth St., will celebrate International Vulture Awareness Day from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
The event will include vulture-related activities throughout the zoo, including a King Vulture talk at 10:30 a.m., a keeper’s talk at 1 p.m. and a vulture maze for kids to race through.
Admission costs $9, $6 for ages 4 to 12, and is free to ages 3 and younger.

Clothing bag sale
Second Chance Thrift Store in the Fairgate Shopping Center, 1412 Sunset Blvd., will have a bag sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
The store will provide shoppers with a 13-gallon bag that they can fill with clothing for $10.

Waco’s 1st humans
Archeologist David Lintz will present a free program about the first humans to occupy the Waco area at 8:30 tonight at Lake Waco’s Reynolds Creek Park Amphitheater.

HOT mutton bustin’
Registration for the Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo’s Mutton Bustin’ event will be conducted at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the Heart O’ Texas Fair Offices, 4601 Bosque Blvd.
The event, which will take place during the H.O.T. Fair and Rodeo in October, will be limited to the first 80 registrants.
Registration must be made in person; the child does not have to be present.
The event is open to children ages 4 to 7 who weigh 45 pounds or less.
Cost is $20 per child.

Lions Park on Labor Day
The Waco Founder Lions Club will have a Labor Day special from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Lions Park-KiddieLand, 1716 N. 42nd St.
Guests can buy one ride ticket and get another ticket at half price. The special excludes tickets for the train and go-kart riders.

Scrap for Hawaii trip
The Heart of Texas Young Marines is seeking donations of scrap metal and aluminum cans to help fund the group’s December trip to the 70th anniversary Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii.
