Street closures for TriWaco Triathlon

 

The following streets will be closed Sunday until 2 p.m. for the annual TriWaco Triathlon:

* University Parks Drive, from Franklin Avenue to Herring Avenue.

* Franklin Avenue, from University Parks Drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

* Washington Street, from University Parks Drive to MLK Jr. Boulevard.

* Cameron Park Drive, from Park Lake Drive to Herring Avenue.

* Partial closure of MLK Jr. Boulevard, between Interstate 35 and Herring Avenue.

Access also will be limited to Cameron Park’s Redwood Shelter, Jacob’s Ladder, Procter Springs, Lover’s Leap, Northern Gateway and the disc golf course.

The event is free to spectators.

Genealogical society

The Central Texas Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Texas Collection at Baylor University, 1429 S. Fifth Street.

The event is open to the public.

WCCC-TV downtime

The Waco City Cable Channel (WCCC-TV) will be off the air today while contractors replace an electrical panel that supplies power to portions of Waco City Hall.

CTAS star party

The Central Texas Astronomical Society will have its monthly star party at 8:30 tonight at the Lake Waco Wetlands, 1752 Eichelberger Crossing.

Telescopes will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring their own telescopes or binoculars, as well as a small flashlight for navigating the property.

If the weather will not permit viewing, a cancellation notice will be posted by 7 p.m. on the website at www.centexastronomy.org.

Soccer team fundraiser

The Waco Blast Boys ’98 soccer team will have a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Regal Car Wash, 212 Hewitt Drive.

Proceeds will help cover the team’s tournament and uniform costs.
