Waco bews briefs for Sept. 9, 2011
Art contest open to residents
Art Center of Waco and KWBU are sponsoring an invitational art exhibition and competition for Central Texans.
The juried exhibition will award $2,000 in prizes and is open to Central Texas residents ages 18 and older.
Media accepted are oils, acrylics, watercolor, tempera, gouache and pastels. Work must be original and completed within the past two years and not previously shown at the Art Center.
There is no entry fee. Entry forms and a CD of artwork images are due by Thursday at the Art Center of Waco, 1300 College Drive.

Punt, pass and kick
The Waco Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a punt, pass and kick competition at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Lake Air Football Fields, 41st Street and Colcord Avenue.
The free event is open to girls and boys in five separate age divisions (6 to 7, 8 to 9, 10 to 11, 12 to 13, and 14 to 15).
Participants must bring their birth certificates and wear gym shoes.
